For Critically Ill Children, Balloon Artists Created a Fantasy Wonderland Using Half-million Ballons
From 22 countries, more than 400 balloon artists joined together to bring happiness and a smile to the face of sick children. Just by using balloons, they constructed a life-size replica of Give Kids The World Village. These balloon artists converted a hotel in Orlando into a fantasy wonderland to make sick children happy.
Those dedicated balloon artists constructed a life-sized ballroom in the Hyatt hotel. The ballroom became a replica of Give Kids The World Village. Give Kids The World Village is a 90-acre nonprofit resort in Kissimmee, Florida. As a gift, Give Kids The World Village gives a week-long magical vacation to sick children and their families.
“We have people from Israel, Guatemala, Venezuela, Colombia, and Canada and with so many different languages. It’s just really cool that we still all speak balloon,” Damon Entertainment balloon artist Haley Damon said.
The replica of the Village’s seven iconic ‘neighborhoods’ was made using a half-million(500,000) biodegradable balloons to recreate Under the Sea, Candy Land, Dinosaur Land, and more.
“If there’s one balloon out of place, it messes up the entire design,” balloon artist Patricia Mathis said. Mathis has 14 years of balloon-design experience and is the owner of Balloon, Bouquets & Beyond, LLC in Lake Mary.
“These kids are going through illnesses and sicknesses, some of them won’t make it to Christmas. So for me, this is their Christmas and we get to give that to them through balloons,” Mathis said. “The first day I was here, the kids wrote their wishes on stars. We’ll be posting them inside the balloon castle. When you read some of those, it’s things that you wish kids didn’t have to wish for.”
This will be a lovely experience for the kids. It will help them fight critical illness and forget about their sickness just for a moment.
“These children don’t know their future and balloons get to bring joy and we get to bring joy and it’s really exciting,” Haley Damon said.
The event is sponsored by Pioneer Balloon Company. “We are very excited about bringing the wonder and excitement of balloon artistry to Orlando while raising funds for such an impactful nonprofit,” said a spokesperson of Pioneer Balloon Company founded in 1917.
The beautiful event raised over $52,000. The amount will be used to fulfill the wishes of other sick children and their families.
Give Kids The World Village has fulfilled the wishes of over 177,000 families from all 50 states and 76 countries since 1986. The fantasy wonderland is made possible by the support of kind donors and community partners, and thousands of lovely volunteers.
According to GNN, Give Kids The World also raises millions of dollars for its charity work with an annual Christmas lights spectacular.
