Recently in an announcement, Billionaire businessman Elon Musk offered that he would pay $54.20 per share for Twitter, the deal valued the social media company at about $43 Billion.

Since joining Twitter in 2009, Musk has more than 80 million followers and has used the platform to make several announcements.

Mr. Musk said he’ll pay the amount which is 38% above the price on April 1. This means he’ll pay $54.20 per share in cash.

Last week, Elon Musk, tweeted a concatenation of suggestions including polls for improving Twitter to hit the maximum potential after he became Twitter’s largest individual shareholder. The suggestion ranged from asking about freedom of speech to whether advertising should be removed from the premium service of Twitter.

Musk says that this social media company needs to be taken private to boost its potential and become a platform for free speech.

“I think it’s very important for there to be an inclusive arena for free speech,” said Musk

Free speech

Freedom of speech is a concept or principle that motivates and supports the freedom of a person or a community to speak freely and articulate their views, opinions, and ideas without fear of being restricted, censorship, or legal sanction.

Free speech is considered the first requisite for liberation. It holds a favored and important position in the hierarchy of liberty. Freedom of speech is the protector of all other liberties.

Freedom of Speech and freedom of expression mean the right to express an individual’s opinions freely using words of mouth, writing, printing, pictures, or any other mode. In recent times this principle globally accepted that the right to freedom of speech is the heart of a free society and it must be protected at all times at any cost.

The main principle of a free society is an unstoppable flow of opinions and expressions in an open medium like social media. Freedom to express opinions and ideas, especially without hesitation and fear of punishment and restrictions play a major role in the development of a particular society and ultimately for the planet.

From this we can understand, that freedom of speech and expression is mandatory for the proper implementation of the democratic process.

In a democracy, freedom of speech & expression paves the road to the free debate of issues. This concept plays a significant role in the shaping of public opinion on social, economic & political matters.

Elon Musk and Twitter
“Twitter has extraordinary potential. I will unlock it.” – Elon Musk

“My strong intuitive sense is that having a public platform that is maximally trusted and broadly inclusive, is extremely important to the future of civilization,” Musk said.

So, Musk is right here. And a majority of the people in the world accept that a person must have the right to freedom of speech. If Musk buys a full share of Twitter. It will be a piece of good news for free speech supporters. You can share whatever opinions you have, you can express your thoughts, ideas, and everything on Twitter.

Musk, a self-described “free speech absolutist” and a powerful Twitter user has been serious about the social media platform and its policies. He recently ran a poll on Twitter asking users if they believed it bonds to the principle of free speech.

Mr. Musk became Twitter’s biggest shareholder after he built up a large stake in the firm.

A filing with the US financial regulator appeared to show text and/or voice messages from Elon Musk to Twitter’s board, showing that he had exalted the idea that the business should go private. Mr. Musk said he was not “playing the back-and-forth game” and said of his offer: “It’s a high price and your shareholders will love it,” according to the messages in the filing.

“However, since making my investment I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company,” said Musk.

Twitter announced that its board “will deeply review the proposal to study the course of action that it believes is in the best interest of the company and all Twitter stockholders”.

At a TED conference, Musk was asked if there was a “Plan B” if Twitter rejected the offer, Musk told the audience: “There is.”

Musk said: “Twitter has extraordinary potential. I will unlock it.”
