Recently, CDC(Center for Disease Control and Prevention) released a new report that shows the Covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE was effective at minimizing the severity of COVID-19 in children under 17 years. Surprisingly, the report says the vaccine is effective even during the Omicron surge. According to US Health officials, the vaccines still protect kids from severe Covid-19 and prevent them from getting hospitalized.

“As a parent of a very young child, I think I would do everything to keep them out of the emergency department in the middle of the night,” said Ruth Link-Gelles, CDC epidemiologist. “What we see from the data that we have is that the vaccine continues to provide good protection against more severe outcomes.”

According to the Pediatricians, the data from the studies and results may seem a little bit confusing. but the parents need to understand that Pfizer Covid-19 shots are still the best way to prevent the severity of the virus.

“If you’re vaccinated, you may get a mild infection and we’re just going to have to learn to live with that,” said Dr. Paul Offit of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

According to the CDC reports released on Tuesday, the Covid-19 death rate among children has been minimized. Between April and early January, there were nine deaths cases among vaccinated children ages 5 to 17. The death rate is so low when compared to 121 deaths of unvaccinated children of the same age.

Then the CDC studied the data of pediatric hospitalizations in 10 states from last April to the end of January. The result was surprising! The Pfizer vaccines were 74% effective in preventing hospitalization of 5- to 11-year-old children. Only two vaccinated children were hospitalized compared to 59 unvaccinated children, according to the data.

Fortunately, the vaccine was 92% to 94% effective in preventing hospitalization of 12- to 15-year-old and 16- to 17-year-old children. the study suggested that 12-year-old children have the most protection of any age.

CDC also says that when omicron was dominant, the Pfizer vaccine prevented emergency room or urgent care visits for 5-11-year-olds by as much as 51%.
