Jessica Watkins is a 33-year-old NASA Astronaut who will fly to International Space Station with three other crew members in April next year.

The other three astronauts are Robert Hines and Kjell Lindgren of NASA and Samantha Cristoforetti of the ESA.

Jessica Watkins is assigned to perform duties as a mission specialist on NASA’s SpaceX Crew-4. The mission will last for almost six months.

This will be her first time in space and soon she might take a trip to the moon with the Artemis team in 2025.

 

The launch vehicle used here is, SpaceX’s Crew Dragon Capsule and it will be launched along with the crew members from Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

 

As per The Newyork Times, Watkins was a Gaithersburg native in Maryland. Later, she was raised in Lafayette, Colorado.

 After that, she graduated from the University of Stanford with a Bachelor of Science in Geological and Environmental Sciences.

 Also, she got a Doctorate in Geology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

In 2017, she joined the Astronaut Candidate Class where she engaged in two years of training included spacewalks, physiological training, water and wilderness survival training, T-38 flight training, and more.

 

“This mission will inspire a lot of children of color that they can see this mission as an example of ways that they can participate and succeed in their life,”  said Jessica Watkins.

“For me, that’s been really important, and so if I can contribute to that in some way, that’s definitely worth it,” she added.

In 2025, Jessica Watkins will participate in a mission on the moon with team Artemis.
