Germany to put at least 15 million electric vehicles on its roads by 2030
According to the new coalition agreement published on November 24th by the incoming government of Germany, the Western European country plans to put at least 15 million electric vehicles on its roads by the year 2030.
A good alternative to fossil-fueled vehicles is electric vehicles.
Volker Quaschning, professor of renewable energy systems at the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin says,
“It can only be achieved if new cars with internal combustion engines are no longer registered before 2030,”
The decision is based on their transition towards climate neutrality.
The social democrats and liberal free democrats are planning to form the next government of Europe’s largest economy.
Another fact the agreement shows is that they’re planning to increase rail freight transport by 25%.
“According to the European Commission’s proposals, only CO2-neutral vehicles will be registered in the transport sector in Europe in 2035 – the impact on Germany will be felt sooner accordingly,” the agreement said.
“Outside of the existing system of fleet targets, we are working to ensure that only vehicles with the proven ability to be fuelled with e-fuels can be newly registered.”
Currently, there are 49,000 charging stations available in the country.
The lack of charging stations is one of the main obstacles to putting the idea into action.
So they’re also planning to put 1 million charging stations in the country by the end of the decade.
“We will accelerate, optimize, and de-bureaucratize the ongoing build-out of charging infrastructure. We are relying on the mobilization of private investment,” the coalition agreement states.
