The most powerful telescope ever made, James Webb Space Telescope is on its way to unlocking the mysteries of the universe.


This telescope will explore every phase of our Universe’s history, from the first luminous glows after the Big Bang, through the formation of solar systems that support life, to the evolution of other planetary systems in our universe.


“The successful launch of the James Webb Space Telescope marks an important leap in the field of observational astronomy, opening up the final frontier of the cosmos,” said Dr. Aayush Saxena of the University College of London, who was part of the makers of the telescope. 


Aayush said, “After successful deployment and commissioning which may take up to six more months, I can’t wait to see what the telescope reveals about the most distant galaxies in the universe as well as potentially habitable planets.”


As a powerful time machine with its powerful infrared vision, the telescope will be able to peer back over 13.5 billion years, enabling astronomers to compare the faintest, earliest galaxies, with today’s grand spirals and ellipticals, shedding light on the evolution of those galaxies.

During its exploration of the mysterious atmospheres of extrasolar planets, and perhaps even find the building blocks of life elsewhere in the universe or alien civilizations in outer space, it will be able to see right through or into massive clouds of dust that are opaque to visible light observatories like Hubble.


The telescope was named after NASA’s second administrator, James E. Webb.

James Webb Space Telescope is 100 times more powerful than its predecessor, Hubble Space Telescope. And it’ll give 100 times more detailed data compared to its predecessor, Ariane 5. 


The launch vehicle used to carry Webb Telescope was provided by the European Space Agency (ESA).

It’ll take almost a month for the telescope to reach its destination, Lagrange Point 2. 

This is the point where the gravitational force of Earth and the Sun is balanced and it is 1.5 million kilometers far away from Earth. 



Webb project co-founder John Mather described on social media, “#JWST can see the heat signature of a bumblebee at the distance of the moon.”


The size of this telescope is almost equal to the size of a standard tennis court. 

Its primary mirror is made by assembling 18 hexagonal mirrors individually with superb accuracy.

The gold-plated mirror was made of Beryllium. 


Unlike Hubble or other telescopes, which are orbiting Earth 500km away, Webb Telescope will orbit around the Sun by keeping synchronization with Earth.

It is expected that the telescope might start operation at the beginning of June 2022.

Mid-infrared sensors, near-infrared imagers, fine guidance sensors precision sensors, near-infrared cameras are the main sensors Webb telescope consists of. 

The Electrical Power Subsystem provides enough energy for JWST to operate efficiently. 


This system consists of Solar Panels, Power Electronic Converters, Telemetric Acquisition units, Solar Array Regulator.

The energy source is the Sun, the ultimate source.


Looking at galaxies 13.7 billion light-years (1.296 × 1023 kilometers) away means we’re looking at galaxies that existed 13.7 billion years ago. This was the time our Universe was an infant. 


This helps in understanding the origins of the universe. 

That’s why everyone is saying that this is a Ten Billion Dollar Time Machine.

Although the mission was hardly delayed, the telescope is now technically advanced than expected. Now it’s active.
