Keanu Reeves donated 70% of ‘The Matrix’ earnings to cancer research organizations
Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves is known for his kind deeds and generosity.
Recently revealed reports shows, he has donated $31.5 million of ‘The Matrix 1999‘ earnings to cancer research.
According to LADbible, he donated 70% of his revenue from the film to cancer research organizations.
Reeves earned approximately $45million in total from ‘The Matrix’ released in 1999.
$10 million as an advance and $35 million from the box office. Now, the report claims that he donated 70% ($31.5 million) of his total revenue from the movie to cancer research.
There is an emotional reason behind Keanu’s huge amount of donations.
His younger sister Kim Reeves was diagnosed with blood cancer in 1991 and then went into remission in 2001.
She continued battling the disease after she was diagnosed.
Even after Kim Reeves was cured, he continued his efforts and mission to raise money for cancer research.
After some time, Reeves set up his organization quietly.
“I have a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years, and it helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research,” Reeves said in a 2009 interview with Ladies Home Journal.
“I don’t like to attach my name to it, I just let the foundation do what it does,” he said.
He auctioned off a 15-minute virtual date in Zoom meeting with himself in 2020, with the proceeds going to children’s cancer program Camp Rainbow Gold.
Among his many roles, he’s portrayed everything from a killing machine in John Wick to a romantic leading man in The Lake House, as well as a goofball in Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey and a sci-fi action hero in The Matrix series.
Keanu Reeves is one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood, and he does not take that privilege for granted.
It is common for celebrities to spend their money instantly, buying luxury items and buying massive mansions.
Living in hotels and traveling from movie location to movie location without grounding himself set Keanu apart from the rest.
Throughout his career, he made a series of financial moves that improved the lives of those around him.
From pay cuts to donations, Keanu Reeves has shown his generosity and commitment to helping those around him. Regarding money, and his willingness to be so generous with his donations, The Chicago Tribune quotes Reeves as saying:
“Money is the last thing I think about. I could live on what I’ve already made for the next few centuries.”
A fan tweeted “As a family that has been in the battle against breast cancer for 5 years now… thank you, Keanu Reeves! You are one of my favorite actors ever.”
